Trump order protecting women's sports draws support from liberals, prominent trans-identified figure

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova, who has shared posts online that are critical of Trump, criticized Democrats after the Republican president signed the executive order to protect women's sports.
"I hate that the democrats totally failed women and girls on this very clear issue of women's sports being for females only," the 68-year-old Czech–American stated in an X post last week in response to a video by Independent Women's Forum.
While she considers herself a Democrat, this is not the first time that Navratilova has spoken out against allowing men who identify as female to compete in women's sports.
Last month, Navratilova expressed frustration after only two Democratic representatives voted with Republicans in favor of the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act.
The measure, which passed the House in a 218-206 vote, makes it a violation of federal law for any recipient of federal education funding to allow men to participate in athletic activities intended for women.
"More dems need to step up here," Navratilova declared in an X post last month. "I know many who agree but are scared to speak up because of re-election. I say do the right thing. Grow a spine."
