Mark Carney: 5 things to know about the new Liberal Party leader, Justin Trudeau's successor

3. He's written a book
In 2021, Carney released a book titled Values: Building a Better World for All, described by Amazon as “a bold and urgent argument” outlining “the radical, foundational change that is required if we are to build an economy and society based not on market values but on human values.”
The Amazon summary of the book highlights its focus on the “fault lines” of “growing inequality in income and opportunity; systemic racism; health and economic crises from a global pandemic; mistrust of experts; the existential threat of climate change” and “deep threats to employment in a digital economy with robotics on the rise.”
The book attributes the “fault lines” mentioned to a “common crisis in values” stemming from the evolution of “market economies” to “market societies” where “price determines the value of everything.”
Carney contended that “fairness, health, the protection of our rights, economic security from poverty, the preservation of natural diversity, resources, and beauty” have emerged as “casualties of our 21st century world.”
The book is characterized as a blueprint for “a more humane society” that includes “wholly new ideas that can restructure society and enshrine our human values at the core of all that we build for our children and grandchildren.”
