6 reactions to Trump's plan to make Gaza the 'Riviera of the Middle East'

5. Sen. Rand Paul: ‘I thought we voted for America First’
While most of the opposition to Trump’s plans to create a Riviera of the Middle East came from the political Left, the proposal generated opposition from some Republicans as well. In response to an X post from Secretary of State Marco Rubio praising the push to “make Gaza beautiful again” and pursue “lasting peace for all people,” Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., wrote: “I thought we voted for America First.”
“The pursuit for peace should be that of the Israelis and the Palestinians,” Paul remarked. “We have no business contemplating yet another occupation to doom our treasure and spill our soldiers blood.”
